February 3, 2012

The NCAA signing period officially opened on February 1 and immediately two HCSA players were prepared to put pen to paper and officially sign their intent to play college soccer.  On February 1, Kebrina Keys of Ashe County High School signed her NLI with Appalachian State University.  Kebrina’s signing was immediately followed by Kendyl Baird of Watauga High School, who signed on February 2 to King College.  Kebrina and Kendyl have been teammates the past four years with HCSA on the ’92 and ’93 teams.  Kendyl and Kebrina helped the ’92 team earn promotion to 1st Division as a U16 team and went on to finish second in 1st Division as a U17 and U18 team.  In 2010, both played key roles in helping the ’92 team make the President’s State Cup Final Four.  In addition to contributions to the ’92 team, Kendyl also helped the ’93 team secure promotion to 1st Division where they competed as a U17 and U18 team.  Kebrina joined Kendyl on the ’93 team for the U18 season.

HCSA is extremely proud of Kebrina and Kendyl and wishes them the best as they embark on their college careers next fall.  With both players electing to play college soccer close to home we hope the HCSA membership will support these young ladies at the next level.  They are excellent role models and hopefully their accomplishments are inspirational to younger HCSA players with college soccer aspirations.

Kebrina and Kendyl join three other former members of the ’92 HCSA team in the college ranks; Hallie Hilliard (Hibriten HS – Lenoir-Rhyne College), Miranda McCrary (Hibriten HS – Montreat College), and Mary Chesnut Smith (Avery HS – UNC-Wilmington).  Some additional HCSA players’ signings are still pending and may be forthcoming in the near future.

Congratulations Kebrina and Kendyl!
